I’ve been quiet on my blog over the last few months but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working hard on Dare. In fact, that’s why I’ve not had time to blog.

The good news is that I’ll be releasing a paid version of Dare the Monkey in a few weeks time, and the even better news is that it’ll come with a brand new version of the game for Apple Watch.

Here’s a quick video showing off some of the gameplay. As you can see, I’ve gone for the lava caves theme from the main game. The caves are full of dangerous magna flows, lava bursts, swinging spikes, and crumbling rock stacks. You can see some of these in the video. The others you can discover for yourself once you’ve downloaded it from the App Store 😉

I had to recruit my good bro to perform the programming duties for this one (it’s coded natively in Swift). Considering the technical constraints of the Apple Watch, I think we’ve done a pretty damn good job of squeezing everything onto a wearable device. We’re also hoping to add a few more elements to it shortly after release, including collectible gems and a few addition graphical flourishes.

‘Dare the Monkey: Deluxe’ is available for pre-order on the App Store. In fact, you can get it at a very reasonable discount price during the pre-order period. It’s set for release on Thursday the 8th of November.

  1. Great game, reasonably priced. Just one small request. It would be great if you could combine the different levels into a single app for the Apple Watch. It would very convenient for the existing and future levels.

  2. Hi Nick. Sorry for the late replay and thanks for the kind words regarding the game.

The reason the Apple Watch version doesn’t have all the levels from the iPhone version is down to the technical constraints of the Apple Watch. We’re already close to the watch’s runtime memory limits with just the graphics from a single world. At the moment, adding all the content from the iPhone version into the watch just isn’t possible, especially since we need to support older versions of the Apple Watch.

Things will change over time as the Apple Watch gets better and more people upgrade to better versions of the watch, but until that happens we need to make sure Dare the Monkey works on as many Apple Watch’s as possible.

    Thanks,
